Adults with Disabilities

Residential Services

Studies show that adults with disabilities benefit from smaller home settings. Enable’s small group homes include a maximum of 4-5 people in private or shared rooms, while supervised apartments are usually 1-2 bedrooms for 1-2 people. Most housing is designed for same gender, but Enable also supports mixed gender housing and couples. Our caring, round-the-clock staff places a premium on fostering meaningful interpersonal relationships within the home and the community, as well as making connections to daily work and volunteer opportunities. Many of our residents have lived with us for more than twenty years.

Assistance in a Community Living Setting

Within our community living settings, Enable offers: assistance with daily living tasks (cooking, cleaning, bathing, etc.); transportation to and from activities and appointments; and medical, therapeutic, and other types of care as needed:

Having the freedom to get around is essential to maintaining independence. Enable provides reliable, trustworthy transportation options to help adults gain access to services, activities and resources — whether medical appointments, shopping for groceries or personal items, visiting with friends, and more.

Behavioral Supports

Enable provides a full set of behavioral services for adults with disabilities, including behavioral interventions and diagnostic evaluations or consultations. We conduct an in-depth behavioral assessment, then develop a structured behavioral supports plan and oversee its implementation. This includes continually training and supervising caregivers and behavioral aides, as well as monitoring and reassessing the plan as needed to ensure key goals and milestones are being met.

Representative Payee

Enable may serve as a representative payee, appointed by the U.S. Social Security Administration to receive Social Security and/or SSI benefits for someone who cannot manage his or her finances. More information can be found here:

Jason's Story

Shortly after birth, Jason suffered from an illness that resulted in limited use of his muscles. But he refuses to let his disability hold him back. Jason graduated from college, teaches computer classes, and assists with managing a website.

Recently, Enable added a new back door to Jason’s apartment to support further independence. The door can be opened and locked electronically using a keypad. “This door has helped me to feel safer in this crazy world of ours. Now that I have achieved what I deem to be truer independence, I’m enjoying my apartment more than ever,” said Jason.

Jason’s advice to others: “If you find that you just can’t continue to do things in the usual way, don’t be afraid to seek alternatives.” For almost 20 years, Enable has provided Jason with creative alternatives that ensure his continued independence.
