Enable Completes Future Search |
On January 10 and 11, 2008, Enable conducted a Future Search Conference attended by over 30 representatives that were: board members, staff, consumers, family members of consumers, and other concerned stakeholders. The time together included a variety of exercises that helped identify significant points in Enable's history, trends, strengths, weaknesses, and dreams for the future. The facilitator of the conference, Charlotte Anderson, collated the information captured during the conference and categorized various recommendations that flowed out of the participants discussions of wants, needs and dreams for Enable. After the conference, the senior managers and Board of Directors further reviewed and refined the recommendations to ensure that they addressed all of the areas believed critical for Enable's focus for the next three years. Areas of focus and major goals were approved by the Board of Trustees at their annual retreat in September. The five areas of shared concerns and major goals are: |
Area |
Goals |
Support and Advocacy |
1. Opportunities for consumers to provide input into shaping Enable's services will be a core operating practice. 2. Ways for employees to actively support consumer choices and rights will be emphasized in daily operations. |
Visibility and Funding |
1. Enable's presence in the community will be at a level whereby local citizens will be familiar with its presence, mission, service options, activities and value. 2. Enable will aggressively expand sources of financial revenues. 3. Enable will maintain its financial stability and viability. |
Quality Assurance |
1. Internal practices (concerning human capital and technology) will advance staff competency, service quality, consumer opportunities and continuous improvement and practice accountability. |
The Workforce |
1. Ensuring employee and volunteer satisfaction and engagement as well as promoting Enable as an “employer/volunteer opportunity of choice” among service providers will be a focus for daily and long-term practice and operation decisions. |
Service Delivery |
1. Services and supports will expand as needed to both meet consumer demand and to ensure Enable remains a flexible and preferred provider of services. 2. Enable will ensure an adequate infrastructure to meet goals and needs is accomplished. |
The next steps in the Strategic Plan process include preparation of an overall 3-year plan with specific targets and an annual work plan. These next two steps will incorporate many of the suggestions that came forth during the January Future Search conference. The first draft of the charted 3-year plan including goals and objectives was presented to the Board at their November board meeting. If you would like a copy of the full strategic plan that contains the background information that lead to formulating the major goals or more information about the charted 3-year plan, contact Executive Director Sharon Copeland at info@enablenj.org or call 609-987-5003, extension 129. |
