Enable is about possibility...not just disabilities.

We take our mobility for granted every day. We expect no less than to be able to figure out problems and make things work for ourselves.

Not everyone has the gifts of good health and an agile mind.

Enable helps nearly 400 persons with disabilities and their families each year. Some of these persons live in one of our ten group homes in Mercer, Middlesex, Hunterdon, Monmouth or Somerset Counties. Others receive in-home care, help with personal care and daily living tasks. Up to twenty persons get individualized help at our vocational day program in Ewing.

Some families get relief from round-the-clock care giving through respite care that may be in the home, or the family member with a disability is taken out of the home to go to a movie or to the Saturday Drop Off program. Some families get help from Enable to renovate their home—to add a ramp or stair glide or widen a door to help a family member in a wheelchair continue to live at home.

All of our services strive to reach the goal of helping each person live as fully and as independently as possible in our communities.

Bruce Witt was one of these persons we served for 13 years through respite care and home renovations. Sadly, Bruce passed away last summer. His life was celebrated at an extraordinary outdoor memorial service at Washington Crossing Open Theatre—a place he loved to go. Enable is about helping persons with disabilities celebrate life. As we focus on possibilities, each person we serve finds ways to live more fully and independently in the community.

Ten percent (10%) of persons in your community are seriously affected by a disability. Enable serves nearly 400 persons with disabilities each year.

As a non-profit, we rely on the contributions of persons in our communities to help us reach our service goals. Here are some examples of our costs:

• Building a ramp to help someone in a wheelchair get into or out of his home costs between $5,000 and $7,000.
• One day at the Vocational Day Program costs $1,200.
• Vans used to transport consumers we serve cost about $40,000. Repairs, maintenance and insurance costs about $7,000 annually for each van.
• A group home’s grocery bill is about $200 a week—not including personal care products residents purchase on their own.
• Four hours of in-home help cost about $100.

Enable puts 88¢ of every dollar received into direct services. Your donation is tax deductible to the fullest extent allowable by law.
